Brace & Browns
Brace & Browns is a slightly upmarket restaurant come lounge bar on Whiteladies Road. Recently renovated they have made a lot of effort to establish themselves as a foody joint, serving a good selection of Tapas and other foods along with a range of wine and beers
The building itself is nicely renovated with good seating inside and a decked seating area outside. Beware though as this can be pretty perilous in the wet.
The food is well presented with well cooked meat and a selection of veg and bits served as a range of side dishes. I think I may have hit on a bad day as my roast potatoes were overcooked nigh on impossible to cut up (good job I have well seasoned teeth) and on inspecting my neighbours, most had also left their potatoes. The monster Yorkshire pudding was a bit burnt towards the top but only just. Considering we were almost the first tables to get served at the beginning of a Sunday shift, this is a poor showing in my books, especially considering the price.
That said the meat was very tasty and the overall presentation and portion size was good. I like the fact that the veg was served in bowls to the side and included cauliflower cheese (some people don’t like this dolloped all over their meal) however I felt that they should have also served the gravy in a jug. The gravy was lovely but there was a lot of it, which isn’t always to peoples liking.
The service was friendly and efficient and the ambience is relaxed and comfortable. Overall not too bad but for £14 I expect to be amazed.
