The Gallimaufry

A relative newcomer to the Bristol Roast scene, The Gallimaufry has certainly made its mark. Having renovated the former Prom Bar the new owners set about creating what is now a very relaxing and popular promenade style venue that serves a very fine roast.

The building itself isn’t that special, however the interior has been dressed with a selection of quirky objet d’art and work from many local creatives making it a cool and interesting place to stare at the walls. Split level seating and a very open plan building provide masses of room for tables and the bars promenade location and outside seating are great for people watching and relaxing in the sun (when its out), so long as you are tolerant of the noisy Gloucester Road traffic.

The roast (IMHO) is one of the best in Bristol at the moment. The chefs pride themselves on using only seasonal produce and locally sourced ingredients and it pays dividends. The choices of roast are limited to Pork of Beef (if you’re a carnivore) but both are expertly cooked and served with masses of veg and cauliflower cheese. I haven’t had the fish option yet but it looks great when I’ve seen it passing by.

I’ve eaten a roast here a number of times now and only been once where not everyone was 100% happy (we were late in the day and one beef was reported as being a little bit dry), however in the grand scheme of things I find this to be a consistently good place to get a great Sunday lunch.

The staff are very attentive, friendly and quick to please. I thoroughly recommend giving The Gallimaufry a try.

I checked this place out due to reviews/ratings on internet. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive with no problem getting served. However, being food is a bit of an issue. Yes, it was Sunday and we were very lucky to get served due to bookings were full. However, we did get served sunday roast…eventually. I don’t know it took but the a lot of my Beef dish was cold and the part of the beef was red raw. I asked if they cook it a bit more sue to the rawness of beef and got a simple the rest of the beef is fine by the kitchen. So, that was it….a very luke warm and partly raw beef roast. 🙁
