The Lazy Dog
Located at the top of Ashley Down Road and within 100 meters of Gloucester Road, The Lazy Dog is a vibrant pub in the heart of this residential area of North Bristol.
Run by the same people as The Pipe & Slippers and The Windmill, you’d expect this to be a comfortable and atmospheric pub and it doesn’t disappoint. Also mindful of the many family oriented drinkers of the area, the pub very sensibly welcome children but asks that they are gone by 7pm to maintain a more adult environment.
There is plenty of seating within the bar area and a few ‘secluded’ booths en route to the Garden where there is yet more seating, both covered an on the lawn. Upstairs there is another seating area which can be booked for private parties and there is further seating to the front of the pub. With all this seating you’d think that not being able to make a reservation wouldn’t be an issue, but due to its popularity if you are not there before 12:30 you’ll struggle to get a seat more often than not.
The food was surprisingly good value and well cooked. You get a decent portion of meat and a Yorkie with every roast. Served with fresh veg (al dente broccoli was a pleasant surprise) and a decent number of spuds.
If I had to level any criticism it would be at the roast potatoes which were a tad underdone and could have been crispier. This could have been as a result of the busy day they were having, however an efficient kitchen should anticipate this. We had to wait for 40 mins to get our food and as we patiently waited the spuds should have been cooking, just a thought.
All in though a very good meal and great value for the price. I would definitely recommend the Lazy Dog for a Sunday roast to anyone in the area.
