The Welly is a large, detached, traditional red-brick pub at the top of Gloucester Road. It’s a much-loved pub that’s well known for providing a warm welcome and great service. The guest rooms in The Wellington have just undergone a major refurbishment with extra rooms added, and Bath Ales is now able to offer excellent boutique-style accommodation, ranging from double and twin rooms to king size rooms with ensuite facilities. Quality never goes out of fashion.

Over priced and pretentious, this is the second time I’ve eaten here and the second time I have been underwhelmed, at 13-15 pounds a roast you’ll feel cheated when you leave hungry. The food is presented in a high end restaurant style and as such there isn’t much on the plate, a smidge of overly powerful gravy and a small bowl of veg between two. Don’t get me wrong the meat was cooked beautiful and was of quality. But I think the balance was not right. It was just trying to be something a good Sunday roast isn’t.

A little underwhelming, a bit out of town but easy for a big gathering.
